Hey happy camper!
Welcome inside the Wood & Wild workshop.
We create bespoke, hand-crafted campers, here in the heart of Wiltshire!
Wood & Wild is a small, family business run by ourselves, Joe and Beth Edwards. We love all things wood and specialise in handcrafted designs. Whilst we feel factory-built campers serve a purpose, we love something with a little more character. Think upcycled taps and sinks, real oak worktops, kitchen tiles that add a splash of colour, bespoke cottage-style cabinetry along with other smaller details that give a unique finish without compromising the practicalities.
It all began a few years back. Beth and I love to travel and collectively, have ventured from Asia to Alaska. We found that nothing beats the freedom of heading out on 4 wheels, with your tiny home tagging along behind you. And that’s exactly what we did, back in 2017, whilst heading out to Europe on an extended honeymoon. When planning the trip, we discovered that camper vans in our price range were a) knackered and old and b) lacked any sought of character. So to mitigate that, we decided to build our very own tiny home on wheels that worked to our budget, our brief and ultimately, enabled us to fill it with all the warmth and cosiness we desired!
Stepping back to the present, we now create bespoke camper vans for clients as well as readymade conversions available for public sale. Each conversion is documented and released via YouTube, amassing millions of views across the platform which has gained features in the likes of House Beautiful and Minds Eye Design.
Joe took a round-about approach to the present, beginning life as a musician. Sir Paul McCartney handed him his degree in music from the highly regarded Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. From there he toured throughout much of Europe, had music featured on Radio 2, RTE Radio 1 and received rave reviews from the likes of Classic Rock and the Daily Express, continuing to travel across much of the world whilst holding residencies in hotels and cruise ships. In 2020, things went firmly on hold as the pandemic took grip. Having grown more akin to woodworking over the years and gaining enjoyment from previous conversions, the change came as a welcome offering and handed an alternative creative outlet. Whilst mostly self taught, Joe has taken part in a number of courses ranging from traditional oak framing, carving and even stained glass.
Beth also took a round-about approach as she began life harnessing her creative side, studying interior design. Here she developed the skills to arrange a design, something often overlooked during the build process. She also picked up some upholstery skills during that time and has always been on hand during previous builds, keen to learn new skills (she’ll even throw some plaster on our bedroom walls!). She soon went on to put her culinary skills to use followed by work as a telecare responder for a private medical company. Beth still plays a part in that role but when she’s not being her usual caring self, she’s lending a hand in the workshop, bringing lots of smiles along the way.
Every conversion is treated with a lot of love, care and attention to detail. More over, you’ll be treated with humility and welcomed into our home as we build yours!
